Sunflower Seed Dessert Bars Recipe
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
3 cups rolled oats (quick)
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup melted shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup sunflower seeds
4 cup thinly sliced raw apples (peeled)
Sift together dry ingredients into bowl. Add remaining ingredients; mix until smooth. Press half of mixture into greased jelly roll pan. Sprinkle sunflower seeds over dough, then arrange a layer of apple slices over sunflower seeds. Roll out the remaining half of dough to form size of jelly roll pan between two sheets of wax paper. Remove top sheet; lift bottom sheet and turn dough over apples. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. When baked, sift a light coating of confectioners sugar over top. Cut into bars.
